Must watch: Blink Twice: “I am Sorry! I am Sorry!

What a wild ride Blink Twice was! Besides being an absolute visual treat, the film is packed with so many layers and hidden messages that it really gets your brain ticking. But first, let me just gush over the fact that this movie was directed and (co-)written by Zoe Kravitz. Seriously, I’ve watched countless interviews with her—this woman’s got style, vision, and the power to turn it into a gripping thriller. Ooh, I looooove it! And the cherry on top? She’s engaged to Channing Tatum, who plays the lead role of King Slater. She knew exactly who needed to play this complex character.

So, what’s the film about? King Slater is a wealthy tech mogul with his own private island. Frida and her bestie Jessica work as waitresses at a fancy gala hosted by this tech king, and Frida is totally crushing on Slater. He invites her and eight other strangers—five women, five men. It starts off like a dream: partying, luxury, relaxation, private rooms, all the drinks and indulgence you can imagine. But soon, you start feeling that something’s a bit off. The deeper you get into the movie, the darker it gets.

And that’s where the juicy lessons come in. I mean, seriously, who goes to a private island with a stranger?

And that’s where the juicy lessons come in. I mean, seriously, who goes to a private island with a stranger? Why not, right? But honestly, not everything that glitters is gold. How often do we fall into the trap of the seemingly perfect guy, only to find out he’s emptier than an echo chamber? Slater got rich by taking, not giving. The movie sharply contrasts wealth and poverty, showing how it shapes the characters’ decisions. And let’s not forget the classic catfight for a rich guy’s attention—so cliché but oh so real.

Then there’s that constant “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” Ugh. What does it even mean when it comes from someone with darker intentions than you realize? It feels like a far-off fantasy, but trust me, it’s closer than you think. Stay woke, keep those eyes wide open.

The big wake-up call in the movie is the snake bite, and just like in the Bible, the venom opens your eyes. What happens when the illusion drops? Are those people you idolize still on their pedestals? Or do you finally realize that the value you’re looking for in others has been in you all along?

Keep it real and stay sharp.

Love you!
Mara
